Richard Marx brings on the endless hits

As the perfect precursor to Valentine’s Day, Richard Marx will bring on the hits Feb. 4 at the Stardust Event Center at Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City.

The Grammy-winning singer/songwriter is set to play an acoustic show filled with tunes from his rich collection including “Right Here Waiting,” “Should’ve Known Better,” “Now and Forever” and “Endless Summer Nights.”

Marx, who garnered a wealth of hits as a songwriter and solo artist throughout the ’80s and ’90s, is still writing for many other artists today and never tires of the craft or performing.

Kankakee Valley REMC to help power rural Guatemala

Kankakee Valley REMC brings electricity to 18,000 homes, farms and businesses throughout Northwest Indiana. In September Dennis Weiss, REMC’s chief executive officer, will serve as an engineer with a group of 31 electric cooperative employees from throughout Indiana who will build electric facilities in rural Guatemala.

It’s part of a project called Hoosiers Power the World, which is being coordinated by the Indiana Statewide Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives Inc., in partnership NRECA International Foundation, an affiliate of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

Weiss said the trip is a great opportunity and “payback” to an industry that has been good to him.

Hobart officials question flood control bill

HOBART| The City Council on Wednesday voiced concerns but took no action in response to a Lake County flood control bill being considered by the Indiana General Assembly.

City Council members David Vinzant, D-4th, and John Brezik, D-5th, said the issue was broached to let officials know what’s happening downstate.

“We may want to do something at future meetings,” Vinzant said.
